Grande Portage Resources Ltd. Commences Water Baseline Studies at Herbert Glacier Gold Project

September 28, 2011

VANCOUVER, BC, September 28, 2011 - Grande Portage Resources Ltd. (TSX-V GPG) ("Grande Portage" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that, effective immediately, it has engaged Admiralty (Admiralty) Environmental, Inc. of Juneau, Alaska to conduct pre-permitting water baseline studies for its Herbert Glacier gold project.

Multiyear baseline studies, as carried out by Admiralty, are necessary under the State of Alaska Large Mine permitting process and to obtain certain specific permits. Among other parameters baseline information is required to obtain a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit, also Department of Environmental Conservation Certification under Section 401 of the Federal Clean Water Act and the approval of Department of Natural Resources Plans of Operation and Reclamation. Water quality information collected periodically through the year under different flow regimes will also contribute to other required geochemical and hydrologic studies.

Ian Klassen, President remarked "Our 2011 drill program has proved that the Herbert Glacier mesothermal vein system is gold bearing. This year, we have drilled almost 30 holes testing only three of the parallel veins and are delighted with the results received thus far which include numerous multi ounce gold assays. These positive results have led us to initiate this baseline study which will be part of producing any preliminary economic assessment which in turn would lead to a pre-feasibility study".

Grande Portage retained Admiralty, a recognized leader in the industry for the past 16 years. Clients of Admiralty include Hecla Mining Company's Greens Creek and Coeur Alaska's Kensington mines. Admiralty has also had extensive water quality experience with the cruise ship industry and local municipalities. Admiralty will initially liaise with Herbert Glacier project geologist and QP Carl Hale and consultant Charles C. Hawley, Ph.D.

Grande Portage and Quaterra Resources, Inc. (TSX-V: QTA, NYSE Amex:QMM) are in the midst of forming a 65%/35% joint venture for the further exploration and development of the property with each party bearing their proportionate costs.

The Company will announce further assays from its current drill program once received from the laboratory.

About the Herbert Glacier
The Herbert Glacier prospect is in the historic Juneau Gold Belt, formerly a world class district with producers such the AJ and Treadwell mines and literally dozens of smaller gold mines and prospects. Overall gold production from the district is over 7 million ounces. In 2010, the district was reactivated by the reopening of Couer Alaska's Kensington gold mine located northwest of the Herbert Glacier property and is on track to mine 125,000 ounces Au in each of the next 12+ years. In addition, strong community support has been demonstrated for Hecla Mining Company's polymetallic Green's Creek Mine, a massive sulfide deposit containing silver, gold and zinc located in a parallel trend 20 kilometers to the west.
